British F1 fans will be able to enjoy live Formula 1 free from adverts next year as the BBC have won the right to screen live coverage. ITV has broadcasted the sport since 1996 and angered many fans by missing up to 15 minutes of every race with advert breaks. Last year ITV missed the … Continue reading ITV loses F1 coverage to BBC from 2009

F1: Formula 1 articles on RaceFans. The Formula One world championship began in 1950 and is considered the world’s leading form of single-seater motorsport.
The most successful F1 drivers include seven-times world champion Michael Schumacher, who also set a record of 91 career wins, and five-times world champion Juan Manuel Fangio.
Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel are the leading drivers among the 20 competitors who take part in the championship today.
Ferrari has won the F1 constructors’ championship more times than any other team, with 16 titles. It is also the only team which has competed in every championship since the first season of Formula 1. There are 10 teams active in the championship, each of which fields cars for two drivers.
The Formula 1 calendar typically runs from March to November each year. Pre-season tests take place in February and March, and a post-season test is usually scheduled for late November or December.

ITV to broadcast all F1 sessions live online this year
Posted onITV will show free practice, qualifying and races live on the internet this year. I have criticised ITV for various shortcomings in their production in the past but this is definitely a step forward and I applaud them for it.

The Ben Evans Column: A new year
Posted onEarly March rivals October as my favourite time of the motor sport year. October is great because for me there is nothing like watching Formula Ford from Paddock Hill Bend at Brands Hatch sipping a mug of coffee as dusk closes in. All the championships are playing out and the winners and losers of the … Continue reading The Ben Evans Column: A new year

Posted onDennis insists he will not quit – Ron Dennis refutes rumours about his future saying he will not step down from McLaren. He apparently held a meeting with the team staff to tell them before flying out to Melbourne. More here. 2008 Australian Grand Prix preview
Posted onIt’s almost time for the first race of 2008. It looks as though Ferrari are going to pick up where they left off as the team to beat but the Australian Grand Prix will answer a lot of questions about how 2008 is going to pan out. Read my prediction for the top three and … Continue reading 2008 Australian Grand Prix preview
Moto GP gets it, F1 does not
Posted onThe Moto GP season starts this weekend and the promoters have made sure that anyone who uses Youtube knows about it. An official promotional video is listed on the front page of the web’s favourite videos site.
2008: Toyota
Posted onA lot of mixed messages have been coming out of Toyota this winter. First boss John Howett back-tracked on reported remarks that the team had to become successful within two years: The rumours about us leaving the sport have always been groundless. Having signed the Concorde Agreement, we are in it at least until 2012. … Continue reading 2008: Toyota
2008: Scuderia Toro Rosso
Posted onToro Rosso are supposed to be using the same car as sister team Red Bull this year, as they did last year. But they’re having to wait until later in 2008 to get their hands on the new car, even though Red Bull got the latest model earlier than they did in 2007. Are Red … Continue reading 2008: Scuderia Toro Rosso
2008: Honda
Posted onHonda had a nightmare 2007. But chief executive Nick Fry did the right thing by using it as a starting point for major change. Fry scored a major coup by luring Ross Brawn to the team as principal. He’s made several other astute hires in the past 12 months including Loic Bigois (aerodynamics), Jorg Zander … Continue reading 2008: Honda
Ecclestone wants French Grand Prix in Paris from 2009
Posted onBernie Ecclestone has confirmed what many people were saying last year, that he wants to move the French Grand Prix from Magny-Cours to Paris in 2009. I wouldn’t be sorry to see the back of the Circuit Nevers – it’s too flat and featureless for my liking. Presumably Ecclestone wants another new street circuit in … Continue reading Ecclestone wants French Grand Prix in Paris from 2009
2008: Super Aguri
Posted onThey’ve hardly tested at all, and when they did they ran out of parts. They’ve cancelled tests, launches and media briefings. Team boss Aguri Suzuki has flown to Japan for crisis talks. Super Aguri have said today they will be on the grid at Melbourne, but they face a race against time.
Spygate and racism: F1 back in the news (updated)
Posted onEvery major British newspaper has at least one Formula 1 story in it today – and they aren’t good news for the sport. McLaren boss Ron Dennis’s home has been raided as the spygate investigations intensify. Two days ago a report in Spanish newspaper Marca alleged Mercedes were on the verge of taking over McLaren … Continue reading Spygate and racism: F1 back in the news (updated)
What F1 can learn from other racing series
Posted onThe other week I wrote about lessons that F1 could learn (and forget) about NASCAR and got a big response. It got me wondering what other ideas should F1 steal from other sports? Here are a few of my suggestions. What other motor sports do you watch – and what would you like to see … Continue reading What F1 can learn from other racing series
Video: F1 testing at Barcelona (part 6)
Posted onI always find the closer a new season gets, the more sharply I feel the pangs of withdrawal. Happily these days we have Youtube, and the wonderful people who go along to the F1 tests and film them, which keeps me going… Here’s some footage of Michael Schumacher testing on Monday alongside Kimi Raikkonen at … Continue reading Video: F1 testing at Barcelona (part 6)
2008: The calendar
Posted onLast year Ferrari and McLaren took every race victory on offer and, more often then not, filled the top three. On only five of 51 occasions did we see a driver in something other than McLaren or Ferrari overalls on the podium. But we also saw the two teams dominate at different types of track: … Continue reading 2008: The calendar
The FIA must solve the customer car problem
Posted onOnce again the Super Aguri transporters have departed a testing session with the teams’ F1 cars not even having turned a wheel. The teams presence in the 2008 championship looks less likely with every passing day. They could be the second team to announce their non-participation in F1 this year, following Prodrive who were originally … Continue reading The FIA must solve the customer car problem
2008: The rookies
Posted onI can’t remember the last season to see such a diverse crop of rookies. There’s a four-times Champ Car champion, a guy who actually made his F1 debut four years ago then disappeared off into the wilderness, one who looks fast but wild and is perhaps reaching F1 12 months too soon, and one who’s … Continue reading 2008: The rookies
